Committee member Troop 870

Troop 870 is proud to have 3 new Eagle Rank Scouts (the highest rank in Boy Scouts). They are:

Connor Wissman,

Kerry Toole,

and

Joe Brown.

Austin Ray just advanced to First Class Scout rank, and Tim Birdsall achieved the rank of Second Class Scout.

Congratulations to these Scouts!

Troop 870 will hold a Court of Honor for Scouts receiving advancements in rank as well as merit badges. I will report the achievements in the January issue of the Shield.

The annual spaghetti dinner at St. Andrew’s Church was chaired by the Demers family; it made $2500 profit.

Two Cub Scout Dens enjoyed a Halloween haunted event run by our Troop on October 30. They loved it so much they said they hope the troop runs another one next year! Unfortunately the annual Cub Scout Woodsmoke event , which is a weekend of camping and activities for younger boys, was rained out during a spectacularly cold wet and windy weekend.

Our troop joined other scouts in attending the annual Camporee November 14-15. The theme this year was HEROES and there were demonstrations by the K-9 corps, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Special Services, Medical Rescue Units. The Troop's Scoutmaster, Mike McCormick is very involved in coordinating this exciting event.

Scoutmaster McCormick also is taking members of the troop again to work at Project Christmas Tree. Volunteers pack Christmas trees, decorations, and notes for shipment to our troops abroad during the Holiday season. On behalf of the Troop we donated funds to support this worthy cause.  The Troop also voted to donate some of our profits from the spaghetti dinner to St. Andrews as well as to help St. Andrews' Angel Fund.

Scouts will bring in canned food donations for the St. Andrews' food pantry at the Court of Honor.
