“Time for Renewal”

By Lydia Rodriguez

J

anuary always seems to be the time of year when we make attempts to better ourselves in one way or another. Whether it is to go to the gym or take up a new hobby, January is definitely the month for renewal. In the past, I have made my resolutions to stay on the elliptical longer than 20 minutes or eventually learn a new crocheting pattern but this year my heart is leading me to a new direction. This year, I am looking for a spiritual renewal.  One of my favorite worship songs is “Above All”.  The lyrical line that stirs me the most is “like a rose, trampled on the ground; he took the fall and thought of me, above all”. Sometimes I find it hard to fathom that the Lord Almighty took the fall for me. I know that all of my steps are ordered and that there was a reason that my path led me to St. Andrews. In the few months that I have been here, I have been met with some challenges but I have also found great joy. I have made many wonderful friends and have had really great experiences but my involvement with St. Andrews has found me wanting a deeper relationship with Christ. I want to get away from the blinders of only experiencing His spirit on Sunday mornings and getting to feel His presence in all the things I do every day of the week. So in this time of renewal, I pray that I will find what I am seeking; “to know Him and to make Him known”.
